What do we need to bring?
All cabins are equiped with one roll of toilet paper for each bathroom, a roll of paper towels, and limited quantities of dishwashing soap, garbage bags, and laundry detergent. You may need to purchase or bring more if staying for longer than a few day. Some rentals offer a starter kit of personal toiletries, but you would need more if staying for more than a few days.
What is provided at the cabin?
Every owner is different in the conveniences they provide. However we do ask for some specific necessities to ensure every guest is provided certain necessities. We ask that each unit have the following items provided: blender, coffee maker, dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, microwave, basic pantry items such as sugar, salt, pepper, adequate cookware, and many other items that we feel are crucial to each guests comfort during their stay. Please check the individual listings for any specialty items provided by the owner. Are fireworks legal?
Fireworks of any nature whatsoever are strictly prohibited in NC.
Are ATVs allowed at the Rental?
ATVs are NOT permitted on the property in most private communities; for specific cabins please contact the office.
Can exceptions be made if a vacation home lists "No Pets Allowed"?
Pets are allowed only in homes that list "Pets Allowed" in the individual description (NO EXCEPTIONS). We respect the wishes of our homeowners and incoming guests who may have allergic reactions to pet hair and dander.
What is the tax rate applied to my reservation?
State and county taxes apply to all rents and any additional fees and services excluding Travel Insurance. There is no additional handling fee. In Watauga County, Ashe, and Avery Counties in North Carolina state tax is 6.75% and county tax is 6%. Note: Tax rates are subject to change without notice at the will of the local municipalities and the state of North Carolina.
Do I need a NC Fishing license to fish in the lakes within Powder Horn Mountain community?
No, you do not need a NC fishing license when fishing in one of our Lakes. However, you do need a license to fish in any of the creeks or rivers within or out of the PHM gates.
Do I need a NC fishing license to fish in any of the local rivers?
Yes, a fresh water Fishing License is required for all anglers who recreationally fish in North Carolina. This license can be purchased on a 10-day, annual or lifetime basis, or combined with a variety of licenses issued by the Wildlife Resources Commission. Fishing licenses may be purchased from any Wildlife Resources Commission agent (includes most bait and tackle shops), online at NC Wildlife website, by calling 828-271-4779 for fishing the Blue Ridge Parkway. What amenities are standard to Moonlight vacation homes?
The following amenities are standard to all homes unless specifically noted in the online description: Bed & Bath Linens, Beach Towels, Pillows & Blankets, Coffeemaker, Toaster or Toaster Oven, Blender, Dishes, Utensils & Cookware, Dishwasher, Microwave, Iron & Ironing Board, Telephone, TV & DVD player, High-Speed Wireless Internet (if available in the area, this will be noted on each home), Cable or Satellite TV in most cabins, Washer & Dryer, Outdoor Furniture, BBQ Grill (gas or charcoal).
Are linens and towels provided at my vacation home?
Bed and bath linens are provided. Beach towels are provided during warmer months. Beds (except trundles, top bunks, futons, rollaways and sleep sofas) are made the day of arrival. Bath linens consist of one bath towel, one hand towel, and one washcloth for each person (based on the advertised bedding), one bath mat for each full bathroom, and two kitchen towels.
For those vacationing longer than one week, mid-stay cleaning and linen services are available (once per week). Please contact our office as soon as possible if you would like to make arrangements.
What is the phone number at our vacation home?
The vacation home telephone number is included on your confirmation letter, balance due reminder and check-in packet. You may also contact our office for this information. Local Calls: There is no charge for local calls. It is necessary to dial the (828) area code. Long Distance Calls: All homes have a long distance block unless otherwise advertised. Options for placing long distance calls include cell phones, calling cards, pre-paid phone cards and collect calls. Any unauthorized long distance calls charged to the vacation home’s telephone will be billed to the leaseholder.
Is there a problem with the water if the home is on a private well?
Homes with private wells are listed accordingly within their property description. These homes occasionally experience low pressure, salty, sandy, distasteful or discolored water. There may be an unpleasant sulfur odor. Private well water may discolor hair and/or clothing. Some guests choose to use bottled water for drinking purposes even though the water is tested regularly for contaminants.
What to do when I leave a Moonlight vacation home?
Remove all food from the refrigerator and leave the temperature setting at medium. Place all trash in exterior cans. Load and start the dishwasher(s). Close and lock all windows and doors. Set thermostat to 75 degrees for AC or 55 degrees for heat. Clean the grill with the brush provided. Tidy up outside including the decks, yard and patio area, if applicable. Return keys to the lockbox after locking up. Detailed instructions are provided in the cabin.
Are floor plans available for all homes?
Some homes on our website feature floor plans, but not all. If a home on our website does not have a floor plan posted, then we do not have them available. We will be happy to give you as much information as we can.
